The quote I picked this week is by Robert Frost, and I love the thought.
“No Tears In The Writer, No Tears In The Reader.” by Robert Frost.
The best writer’s feel passion about what they are writing. If the passion is not present, the emotion is not there. If the emotion is there, forget trying to please a reader because they will not be compelled to read any more of your stuff. You must believe in what you write, you must feel what you write, you must know what you write. If you do not, your readers will know.
If somebody knows quite a lot about things, it takes you quite a while to find out whether they’re really stupid or not. - JD Salinger
I thought I’d submit a simple quote today. Something that doesn’t require great thought, but simply is.
“Anybody can make history. Only a great man can write it.” - Oscar Wilde
I always new Mark Twain was my idol, my mentor….he knows exactly what he’s talking about!
“There are some books that refuse to be written. They stand their ground year after year and will not be persuaded. It isn’t because the book is not there and worth being written — it is only because the right form of the story does not present itself. There is only one right form for a story and if you fail to find that form the story will not tell itself.”
Ever happen to you?
If you understand this quote, you might have friends and family like mine
“Writing is a solitary occupation. Family, friends, and society are the natural enemies of the writer. He must be alone, uninterrupted, and slightly savage if he is to sustain and complete an undertaking.” by Jessamyn West
My friends especially, do not understand the solutide I require to write. Whether it is to be alone to actually write, or just think. Meditation helps too. But geez if there isn’t 20 phone calls during my writing time, by the same people who I consistently tell, hey - this is my writing time.
Are you a writer who completely understands??
The quote for this week is from Isaac Asimov -
“If my doctor told me I had only six minutes to live, I wouldn’t brood. I’d type a little faster.”
Well, amen to that! If I thought I wasn’t going to have the chance to say all that is inside of me, I’d be typing faster than I ever knew I could!
Let that hang over your writing area - if it doesn’t inspire you, I’m not sure what will.
Quote of the Week this week is, “People can be divided into three groups: Those who make things happen, those who watch things happen and those who wonder what happened.” - John W. Newbern.
I really don’t know why I love this quote, except it really speaks to me. I have this above my writing area, except now that I have the laptop, I have to reassign where it is. I might write it on a post it note and stick it on my bathroom mirror. Just to remind myself, that nothing will get accomplished if I don’t MAKE it happen.
“I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, “Move from here to there” and it will move. Nothing will be impossible to you.” - Matthew 17:20
I love this quote. In fact, most biblical phrases have an extreme importance in my life, but this one more than others.
If I have faith, I believe just a little, even the amount of a simple, tiny mustard seed, I will be able to move a mountain. Nothing will be impossible. All it takes is a sliver of faith.
Have that? And you have everything!
I just thought this was a good quote for this time in my life….in fact, as a firm believer of everything Alice Walker was striving to be, I take her words to heart and make them my own….
“No person is your friend who demands your silence, or denies your right to grow.” - Alice Walker
A wise woman uttered these words, and they are truly words to live by.
